JAY – Selectmen have agreed to repave the sidewalk on Main Street from the entrance to Jay Plaza to the post office.

The project is expected to cost $12,000 and will be paid from the Highway Department’s construction account. Town Manager Ruth Marden also will explore options to get some funding from the Americans with Disabilities Act to help with the project.

A handicapped resident had requested that the section be repaved to make it a smoother ride in a motorized wheelchair.

Board Chairman Bill Harlow said he knows of at least three people, including this resident, who have experienced difficulties because of the sidewalk’s condition.

In other business Monday, selectmen:

• Signed a one-year ambulance contract with Community Emergency Services for $53,362.

• Appointed Ruth Marden to an ambulance advisory committee. The board is looking for another full-time member and an alternate for this committee.

• Appointed Selectman Parker Kinney and resident Al Landry to the Channel 7 Advisory Board.

• Rescheduled the next selectmen’s meeting for Aug. 18.

• At Landry’s request, agreed to have the committees that developed a revised school budget ballot revisit it and critique it.

• Signed a resolution on the credit enhancement plan with International Paper.
