CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Sugarloaf/USA will host the annual United Way Golf Tournament Thursday, June 19. The event, which draws more than 100 golfers to play, is a fund-raiser to benefit the United Way of the Tri-Valley area, dedicated to providing funds to 25 charitable organizations within the region.
Contestants pay a $120 entry fee, which covers 18 holes on Sugarloaf/USA’s top-ranked course, a golf cart and a full lunch at the Sugarloaf Inn. The tournament is a shotgun start, scramble format starting at 8 a.m. The fund-raiser, now in its ninth year, raised more than $7,000 last year and is expected to achieve similar success this year.
The major sponsor of the tournament is Farmington Ford-Mercury and co-sponsors are the Wolfington Group, United Kingfield Bank, and Sugarloaf/USA Golf Club. Contestants can win one of three $100 cash prizes available as well as one of four Hole in One prizes, including a 2003 Ford F-150 truck, 52 dozen TopFlite golf balls, a new set of TopFlite irons and a $250 American Express gift certificate. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in both the low gross and low net categories.
“We are looking forward to hosting this tournament once again,” said Scott Hoisington, director of the golf club. For more information on tee times and accommodations phone 1-800-THE-LOAF or log on to www.sugarloaf.com
