Dear Sun Spots, On Nov. 19 I saw part of an interview and was not able to get the first name of the person and author being interviewed. The only information I could glean was that it referred to a Dr. Petit who had written a book about his family, wife and two daughters, who died in a criminal act of violence. The book’s title is “A Father’s Lesson For Living.” I do not have a computer and would be grateful for an address.

Thank you kindly for your help.

A happy and blessed holiday to you and the fine work you are doing. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots remembers this horrifically sad story from the summer. You are referring to Dr. William Petit Jr. whose home in Cheshire, Conn., was broken into in mid-July. Two men kidnapped a female family member to withdraw money from a bank and then killed Petit’s wife and their two daughters, police said.

At the time, Petit Jr., who was severely injured, told police his family had been held hostage for hours before one member, who was not identified, was taken to the bank with a suspect.

Bank employees were suspicious of the transaction and called police, who surrounded Petit’s home, authorities said.

The men were later captured but Petit’s wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and their two daughters, Hayley and Michaela, were found dead in the home.

Joshua Komisarjevsky, 26, of Cheshire, and Steven Hayes, 44, of Winsted, were later charged with six counts of capital felony murder. State police charged the two men with assault, sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary, robbery, arson, larceny and risk of injury to children. Hayes was charged in the sexual assault of Hawke-Petit, and Komisarjevsky in the sexual assault of Michaela.

The New Haven State’s Attorney plans to seek the death penalty against both men.

Petit is the medical director of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. You should be able to reach him at the New Britain General campus, 100 Grand St., New Britain, CT 06050.

Dear Sun Spots: I am in the hopes that I can give some information on two inquiries that were in the Dec. 11 column:

The first one is the person looking for a Michael who makes dentures – I am aware of a Michael Adkins who used to work for Twin City Dental and now has his own denture-making business with his son. The new business is called Smile Again Dentures and is at 801 Webster St. in Lewiston.

The second was a request from a Blanche Newell of Livermore Falls who was looking for cag nut bars. I have a feeling she’s looking for Zag Nut bars. I can’t help with where to find them, but I believe the name will help her in her quest.

Good luck! – AEL In Lewiston.
