JAY – A $50 million discrepancy between personal property value listed in the 2005 town report and the tax commitment brought up at a meeting Monday has been solved.
Resident Judy Diaz questioned selectmen’s Chairman Bill Harlow about a $833 million figure he used to say how much personal property was valued in 2005.
In the town report, Diaz said, the amount is listed at $883 million.
Town Manager Ruth Marden checked the figures Tuesday and cleared up the discrepancy.
The figure used in the book is the value of all personal property value in town, Marden said Tuesday.
The lessor number is what the town assesses taxes on, she said.
There is $50 million in pollution control equipment that the state Department of Environmental Protection has certified as tax-exempt for industries, Marden said.
