LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – The economy is again expected to hold down attendance at New Hampshire’s annual Bike Week, but organizers see some optimistic signs.

Attendance peaked in 2004, with an estimated 375,000 people. But attendance has dropped steadily since then, declining to 230,000 last year. Executive Director Charlie St. Clair told the New Hampshire Sunday News that more vendors have signed up this year than last, and reservations for local lodgings are strong. But he says weather, more than anything else, will determine the event’s success.

The 86th annual Bike Week starts Saturday and runs through June 21.
