CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch is declaring September as Campus Safety Month to encourage college students to keep safety – especially fire safety – in the forefront.

Lynch says since 2000 there have been 125 fatal campus-related fires in the country. He says students should be especially careful while burning candles, cooking and smoking.

Fire Marshal Bill Degnan says students also should make sure their buildings have working fire alarms and automatic fire sprinklers.
