QUINCY, Mass. (AP) – The state Department of Public Health has warned customers not to eat soy sprouts from Chang Farms due to possible listeria contamination.

The recalled product is packaged in 12-ounce bags labeled as Soy Sprouts under the Chang Farm Brand. It has a sell-by date of April 19, 2008, and a UPC code of 00 29899 0100.

The product is sold at several grocery store chains, including Stop & Shop, Market Basket and Whole Foods. The health department says retailers should remove the product from shelves and customers should return it to where they bought it.

No illnesses associated with the product have been reported.

Listeria bacteria can cause listeriosis in humans, which can be fatal, especially in those with weakened immune systems.
