BOSTON (AP) – The BostonCoach limousine company has eliminated 45 jobs with the closing of an Everett call center.

A spokeswoman told The Boston Globe that the move is part of an effort to switch calls to a Nova Scotia-based company, Blue Ocean, which has a bigger phone bank.

That should increase BostonCoach’s ability to respond to a rush of calls.

BostonCoach is controlled by mutual fund giant Fidelity Investments. The company still has about 1,200 employees, including 800 in Massachusetts.

The job cuts come at a time when rising fuel prices and falling demand are pinching the limousine industry.

BostonCoach spokeswoman Lisa Allen said the entire industry is dealing with lower ride volume, but the company thinks it’s doing slightly better than most.
