LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) – A judge has upheld the Lawrence police chief’s decision to revoke the gun permit of a former Marine who fired into a crowd of partygoers.
Daniel Cotnoir was acquitted in 2006 of three felony charges after he argued he was acting in self-defense after a bottle smashed though his window in August 2005.
He said he fired into a clear area, but the round hit concrete and the fragments injured two people.
After the trial, Chief John Romero revoked Cotnoir’s gun license for firing in the direction of a crowd of people.
Cotnoir’s attorney argued Romero’s actions were unfair because his client had been acquitted, but a Superior Court judge disagreed Friday.
Cotnoir hasn’t decided whether to appeal.
