LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – The police chief wants to hire a new detective whose primary role would be investigating cybercrime.
Chief Mike Moyer said the goal is to tackle the growing number of computer-related crimes taking place in the city, from credit card and identity theft to so-called cyberstalking and online sexual predators.
Moyer said patrol officers are trained in some aspects of investigating computer crime but some cases are beyond the scope of their usual duties.
A request for a new detective was in last year’s budget but was not approved by the City Council.
