SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) – A hot air balloon went a bit off target Sunday morning, brushing a rock outcropping and a house before coming down in a nearby yard.

“I was walking my dog down the street and I heard this big noise,” David Carrabino of Southington told WVIT-TV. “It was a hot-air balloon. It just bounced off the cliff over there, on the edge, and then I just slowly saw it glide down and bounce off my neighbor’s yard.”

A female passenger on the balloon was taken to the hospital for observation after complaining of pain in her ribs, but nobody was seriously injured and not damage was reported to the home on Kings Court, police said.

Richard Schmaltz said that after landing the balloon in his yard on Hobart Street, the passengers gave him a bottle of champagne for his trouble.

“Apparently it’s tradition that whoever’s yard they land in, a bottle of champagne is to the owner of the house. I guess I’m a lucky person this morning,” he said.
