BOSTON (AP) – An 82-year-old man drowned and his son was rescued after their boat capsized Sunday afternoon in Buzzard’s Bay, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

The Coast Guard response boat was returning from a routine patrol when the crew spotted the son on top of his 20-foot recreational vessel and took him aboard near the Hog Island No. 2 buoy, according to the statement.

His father, who had been on the boat with him, was missing, but was recovered from the water unconscious and not breathing after nearly an hour of searching by two marine vessels and a helicopter, according to the statement.

The two were taken to Onset State Pier, from where an ambulance took them to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Mass. The father was pronounced dead shortly after arrival there, according to the statement.

There was no immediate information on what caused the boat to capsize and the names of the victims were not released.
