MADISON, N.H. (AP) – A couple who wanted to spruce up their home for Christmas swiped hundreds of dollars worth of decorations from a neighborhood, police said.
Sean Calnan, 29, and Julie Ames, 33, face three counts of receiving stolen property.
“They were out looking at decorations, and they decided they would look good at their house,” Madison Police Chief John Pickering said.
Police said the pair made off with more than $750 worth of outdoor ornaments from a neighborhood last weekend, but confessed after one resident wrote a letter to the newspaper addressed to the Grinch who stole Christmas.
“Please Mr. Grinch, for the kids’ sake, return what is not yours,” wrote Jim Curran. “The Whos in Whoville will still have Christmas in their hearts, but we’d like to have it in our neighborhood as well.”
