NEW YORK (AP) – As his shocked friends watched in panic and horror, a 22-year-old Connecticut man died after being hit by a car while he was crossing a midtown Manhattan street.

Benjamin Brown, of Stamford, was killed around 3 a.m. Saturday as he was crossing 57th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues and was hit by a car traveling westbound, police said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI.
