DERRY, N.H. (AP) – A Derry man is suing a mother and son, saying they threw an drinking party that led to his son’s death in a car crash.
Dexter Hodgeman’s 17-year-old son, Steven, died from a crash in November after leaving a party at the home of Jane and Alex Matson. The car’s driver, Carl Burke, 17, also was killed.
The lawsuit maintains the Matsons had the responsibility not to provide minors with alcohol and not to allow Burke to drive after he became “visibly intoxicated.”
In response, Jane Matson filed court papers saying Burke was negligent and responsible for the accident and that if he was visibly intoxicated, it was Steven Hodgeman’s responsibility not to ride with him.
