The Bagaduce Music Lending Library will hold its 14th annual Young Composers Competition & Festival, open to all Maine students in high school or lower grades.
Launched in 1996, this competition encourages students to create new works, develop their composing and notation skills, and get valuable feedback from professional musicians. For six lucky youngsters, it’s a chance to win some extra spending money, too.
Young Maine musicians are invited to submit their new works by Feb. 19 for review by a jury of professional musicians. This year’s judges are George Emlen, music director of Boston’s acclaimed choral & musical theater group Revels; Fred Goldrich, conductor of The Bangor Band; and John Cooper, professor of music and composer-in-residence at the College of the Atlantic.
Cash awards will be presented and all participants will be invited to perform at the Young Composers Festival on April 24 in Blue Hill.
All submissions will become part of the Bagaduce Music Lending Library’s Maine Collection. For entry forms, call the library at 374-5454 or e-mail [email protected]. To learn more about the Bagaduce Music Lending Library, visit www.bagaducemusic.org.
