AUBURN — The Giving Tree is up at the Auburn Mall and is filled with tags representing children that will otherwise have no gifts for Christmas.
Donors are needed to take the tags and provide toys and clothes for the children. The gifts will go under the tree and will be secured and distributed by The Salvation Army of Lewiston-Auburn. Gifts need to be received and secured by The Salvation
Army by Monday, Dec. 14.
As of Dec. 3, more than 500 families have applied for Christmas assistance,
representing almost 1,800 children. The local application limit has been
exceeded and no more applications may be taken.
On Nov. 20, the Red Hatters of Maine started the toy drive
by collecting many toys at the mall. On Nov. 21, the Auburn Community
Band started The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle collection drive by
playing holiday music at the Auburn Mall for more than an hour.
Also, JCPenney has created
an on-line adoption program in conjunction with The Salvation Army.
From now until Dec. 14, customers can adopt and shop online at www.jcp.com/angel.
Call the local Salvation Army office at 783-0801 for more information or take
a tag off the Giving Tree at the Auburn Mall.
