FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently featured its fourth annual College to Corporate Symposium. Hosted by UMF’s Business Economics and Pre-MBA programs and the University’s Center for Human Development, the forum brought junior and senior UMF business students together with Maine business professionals to learn about current practices and expectations and to create pre-professional networking opportunities.
An evening panel discussion and networking session included Justin Hall (UMF class of 2005), Ameriprise Financial; David Herring, Maine Huts and Trails; Rick Martin, Comfort Inn and Suites; Diane Rogers, Wright Express; Kimberly M. Smith, Enterprise Rent-a-Car; and Bob Burdick, Reed and Reed, Inc.
Panel members explained the hiring and interviewing process to the participants, providing the audience with a glimpse of how the process compares among various employers. Employer expectations were reviewed regarding dress, decorum and written presentation of resumes and cover letters.
The employers emphasized the importance of researching the company and position individuals are interested in applying for and preparing thoroughly for any interview.
