FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) – A 47-year-old Massachusetts woman who was missing since Wednesday died in an apparent fall in Franconia Notch State Park, authorities said Saturday.
The body of Mary Sullivan Petitti, of Brockton, was found at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, said Fish and Game Lt. Todd Bogardus.
“Preliminarily, it appears she may have taken a fall,” Bogardus said. “She was located in a brook drainage that is very steep and dangerous and is not a hiking trail.” The location is a quarter-mile above the Cannon Mountain tramway.
Petitti was last seen Wednesday. Late Friday, her car was found in the parking lot near the Cannon Mountain tramway. Petitti is from Brockton but owns a home in nearby Thornton. She was staying at her Thornton address when she went missing, officials said.
The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
