BOSTON (AP) – Developers of a proposed wind turbine farm in Nantucket Sound said Thursday they are revamping their plans to relocate 10 of the turbines from state waters to federal waters.
The change was made in response to a request from state Environmental Affairs Secretary Ellen Roy Herzfelder, according to the developer, Cape Wind Associates of Yarmouthport.
The relocation of the turbines to federal waters on Horseshoe Shoal was the result of a recent boundary change announced by the US Department of the Interior, according to the developer.
The change also allows the shifting of another 20 turbines from deeper water to more shallow water in response to concerns about commercial fishing, navigation and archaeological interests, according to Cape Wind President Jim Gordon.
Cape Wind Associates hopes to build a total of 130 energy-producing wind turbines. It would be the nation’s first offshore wind power development.
