CHARLTON, Mass. (AP) – A woman who swerved to avoid a deer crashed her car into a motel, driving through a room and sliding about 40 feet down a ravine before coming to a stop, police said.
Vanessa A. Lawson, 30, of Leicester was not injured in the accident, Charlton Police Chief James Pervier said.
Lawson was traveling east on Route 20 at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday after leaving a night-school class. After she drove off the road to avoid the deer, her car smashed into the front of the Redwood Motel, about 80 feet off the highway.
Her car became airborne when it smashed into the front of the hotel room, Pervier said. A bed in the room was untouched as the vehicle evidently flew over it on its way through the back wall, he said.
Pervier said the person who had rented the motel room was not in it at the time of the crash. Someone in an adjoining room notified police about the crash, he said.
Officials said it was the third time the motel has been struck by a motor vehicle.
