BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) – Gregg Metternich, the pharmacist at a Boston Avenue CVS was pulling into work Thursday afternoon when he noticed a box near some trees. Metternich told police he recognized it as a similar container that held his own father’s ashes. When he looked inside, he said he realized the container held human ashes.
“Someone deserves better than this,” Metternich said, “so I called the cops. I’ll bet 200 people drove by without realizing what it was.”
Police said if no one claims the container in the next several days week it may be sent to a state laboratory for testing.
Metternich said he hopes someone will come forward, otherwise, “it seems like a sad ending.”
