CLAREMONT, N.H. (AP) – A race car driver involved in a fatal accident last year at Twin State Speedway met his own end after winning a race there last week.

Track owner Dennis Fleury says driver Walter Harris died of a heart attack soon after winning his race on Friday.

Fleury says Harris, 50, was taking his victory lap when he pulled up next to the track’s emergency medical team and said he had problems breathing. Harris was taken to a hospital but couldn’t be saved.

Fleury says Harris, of Claremont, had worked hard to overcome the pain of being involved in a crash last year that killed a safety worker.

Harris struck and killed Michael Bliss of Calais, Vt., during a practice run last August.
