800 take part in Penguin Plunge

HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) – There’s nothing like a midwinter dip in the ocean to get your spirits going.

Almost 800 people took part in the annual Penguin Plunge at Hampton Beach on Sunday to raise money for the New Hampshire Special Olympics. Thousands of people turned out to watch.

Organizers say the event brought in $415,000.

UNH quiet for super win

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – It was all quiet at the University of New Hampshire after the Patriots won the Super Bowl.

Hardly any revelers went downtown, though police were prepared to deal with any disturbances.

Authorities were worried about a repeat of costly disturbances after big sports events involving New England teams in past years.

In the week before Sunday’s game, administrators met with police, student leaders and town officials in an effort to discourage rowdiness.
