BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) – A 22-year-old woman is continuing to recover from serious injuries she suffered two weeks ago when fire destroyed the top two floors of a downtown building.

Rose Billetdeaux is still a patient at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston but she now is described by hospital officials as being in fair condition.

Billetdeaux was living in the Wilder Building in Brattleboro when a fire gutted the top two floors of the four-story building on Dec. 4.

Billetdeaux was flown to the hospital with serious burns and smoke inhalation in the early and was listed in critical condition for more than 10 days.

On Wednesday, her condition had improved to serious, according to hospital staff. On Friday, she was listed in fair condition.

A fund to help pay for her hospital bills has been established at the Chittenden Bank in Putney. Billetdeaux does not have health insurance.
