WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) – The Vermont State Police is investigating what officials are calling an accounting discrepancy at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.
Corrections Commissioner Steve Gold said the discrepancy was discovered during a routine review of the prison’s finances.
“We uncovered some serious discrepancies in accounting for funds at the facility during our routine audit of the finances,” Vermont Corrections Commissioner Steve Gold said in a statement. “We decided to turn the information over to the Vermont State Police for further investigation into a possible criminal matter.”
Gold said that since the matter was now being investigated by the police he could have no further comment.
