Dear Sun Spots: On April 25, the Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold a high tea for the community in order to explain to the community what they do and to attract new members. We are looking for donations of pretty flowered china teacups and saucers for the upcoming event. We are also looking for silver plated tea pots to serve from.

The teacups do not have to be matching sets, but they must be free of chips or cracks, as that is a health issue. If you have teacups and saucers that you no longer want and are willing to donate them to the Auxiliary, please drop them off at the Franklin Memorial Hospital gift shop or call 779-2750.

You can also mail your donations to Catherine Merrow, Franklin Community Health Network, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington, ME 04938.

Please ensure you package your china extremely well so it won’t break during transit. Thank you for your help. – Catherine Merrow, Farmington.

Dear Sun Spots: I make bed dolls for nonprofit organizations, but I am having problems finding the round pillows to fit the lower part of the dolls skirts. Does anyone know of any stores that may still sell them?

One other question: I am looking for an old recipe my grandmother had using leftover pie dough. It was a sugar and cinnamon cookie about 12 inches wide coiled in a flat circle, I thought she once called it an elephant ear. Does anyone have the recipe? Thank you for any help you can give me. – Justina in Peru.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, there appear to be several versions of this. One is deep fried; the following baked recipe is located at www.cooks.com:

Elephant Ears

Ingredients:
¼ cup butter, 1 cup flour, 2 tablespoon sugar, ½ teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, 1/3 cup milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, sugar.

Method: Heat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet with shortening. Heat butter until melted; set aside. Stir flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Stir in milk and 3 tablespoons of the melted butter until dough forms. Sprinkle a surface lightly with flour; turn dough onto surface. Knead 10 times. Roll dough with rolling pin or pat with hands into a rectangle, 9 x 5 inches. Brush with remaining melted butter using a pastry brush; sprinkle with mixture of 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon.

Roll dough up tightly, beginning at narrow end. Pinch edge of dough into roll to seal. Cut into 4 equal pieces with sharp knife. Place cut sides up on cookie sheet; pat each into a 6 inch circle. Sprinkle with more sugar. Bake until golden brown, 8-10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet with a spatula. Let cool on rack. Makes 4 elephant ears.
