NORTH CONWAY, N.H. (AP) – Four Massachussetts rock climbers, including two children, were helped off Whitehorse Ledge early Saturday morning.
Fish and Game Conservation Officer Brian Abrams said the mother of one of the children called authorities after her husband and the rest of the group failed to return to their campground late Friday.
State police and Fish and Game launched a search and discovered the climbers stranded on Whitehorse Ledge after failing to reach the top before dark. Half a dozen technical climbers were called in to assist and they brought extra headlamps to the stranded climbers, who included two girls ages 10 and 11.
Abrams said the girls managed very well and the two adults had done the right thing in ordering everyone to anchor themselves to the cliff once darkness fell.
Helped off the cliff were Robert Rogers, of Arlington, Mass. and his daughter Anna and their friend Martha DeWitt and her daughter Shelda. No one was injured.
