Three people escaped serious injury Thursday afternoon when the driver of this Saab drove into the back of a tractor-trailer at Washington Street and Beech Hill Road in Auburn. Police said Rodney Westleigh, 40, of Beech Hill Road, was pulling off that road at about 1:45 p.m. when the driver of the tractor-trailer began to change lanes to avoid a third vehicle. The Saab struck the back of the rig and was partially run over, police said. The car then flipped into the southbound lane of Washington Street. Early reports were that three people were trapped in the vehicle. However, police said Westleigh and two family members, 17 and 13 years old, were out and sitting on the median when rescue crews arrived. The three were examined at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. The truck driver was identified as Kenneth Reynolds, 44, of Townsend, Del., who was not hurt, police said.
