POLAND – The Regional School Unit 16 board Wednesday night agreed to include a second technology integrator in the 2009-10 budget.
Originally, Superintendent Dennis Duquette’s $18 million budget called for eliminating 24 positions in the five schools in Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland.
“The second technology integrator will be just a two-year contract to help us in transition and is not envisioned as permanent,” Duquette said.
The position will be paid for with federal economic stimulus money and will not affect the budget.
The board also considered reinstating a special education leader and the Latin program, both of which were rejected.
The three-fifths time guidance position at the Bruce M. Whittier Middle School was taken from the budget, but it will be reconsidered when the board takes final action on the spending plan.
The school board will take its final budget vote at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the Poland Regional High School library on Route 26.
