AUBURN – Mayor John Jenkins will share photos and impressions from his trip to Washington, D.C., for the presidential inauguration at a series of showings next week at Auburn’s Flagship Cinema.

The presentations are free, but Jenkins is using them to collect donations for his Community Home Energy Assistance Program, CHEAP.

The 45-minute presentation will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday and again at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Jenkins was one of the millions to brave cold temps at the U.S. Capitol to witness the inauguration of the 44th president, Barack Obama, in January. He took pictures the entire time, and compiled them into a PowerPoint presentation.

Jenkins also visited Harrington last winter, home to Worcester Wreaths. The company makes Christmas wreaths, and donates thousands each winter to decorate soldiers’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery.

“I helped make some wreaths, and then went to put some of them on the graves at Arlington when I was down for the inauguration,” Jenkins said. “So the presentation has some of those photos, and tells that story, too.”

Jenkins said he hopes to raise money for heating oil assistance. The CHEAP program is designed to help middle-income people who are having a hard time making ends meet but don’t qualify for other federal or state aid.

“These are the people that make ‘one penny too many’ to get help, but don’t make enough on get by without some assistance,” he said.
