LISBON – A Lisbon man, 46, is being treated for burns at Portland’s Maine Medical Center, following a fire at his home here Saturday.
Timothy Shove, of 384 Lisbon St., was listed in fair condition and was being treated in the hospital, according to Maine Medical Center nursing supervisor Linda Allen.
According to Lisbon Deputy Fire Chief Bob Robitaille, the victim suffered burns on both hands and the side of his face.
The man told fire officials he was sleeping and was awakened by knocking on the door of the 384 Lisbon Road home. “There were no smoke detectors in the house. He’s very lucky,” Robitaille said, adding that it was believed he was the only occupant, but it was not known if he was the owner.
Firefighters had the 12:34 p.m. blaze “knocked down in 15 minutes, under control in about 40 minutes,” clearing the scene at 3 p.m. The home was heated by an oil furnace in the basement.
One truck from Topsham Fire Department’s rapid intervention team responded; Lewiston Fire Department filled in at E.T. Smith Hose Co. in Lisbon Village and Durham Fire Department filled in at the Lisbon Falls station.
Loss to the small single-story wood-frame home was estimated at $80,000.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday night by the Lisbon Fire Department and State Fire Marshal Joel Davis.
