DURHAM – Icy road conditions were blamed for an early morning car-truck crash on Pinkham Brook Road (Route 125) Saturday that left one driver injured, according to Sgt. Jim Jacques of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
The injured woman, Julie Blais, 48, had left her 203 Pinkham Brook Road home but decided to turn around and go back due to the icy road. On her way back, she saw a vehicle off the road and stopped.
At the same time Dana Hartford, 38, of 188 Wilson Pond Road, North Monmouth, who was traveling south toward Freeport, rounded a curve, and upon seeing Blais’ car and the other vehicle, slowed down, but her car skidded out of control on the ice-covered road and struck Blais’ vehicle head-on, Sgt. Jacques said.
Blais suffered a leg injury and was transported by Durham Rescue to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Hartford escaped apparent injury.
Sgt. Jacques estimated damage to Blais’ 1999 Subaru station wagon at $3,500, and at $2,500 to Hartford’s 1995 Chevrolet pickup in the 6 a.m. crash.
