LEWISTON – Several police officers responded to a reported home invasion involving a gun on Monday at 88 Elm St., arresting one suspect.

Brian Paladino, 31, of 40 High St., Auburn, and another unidentified man forced their way into the second floor apartment that Nicholas Herrick, 27, shares with Lucas Messer, who was also home, at 12:39 p.m. displaying a gun, according to police Lt. Jim Minkowski.

Herrick was hit with a blunt object and suffered a non-life threatening cut to his head. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was treated and then discharged.

Minkowski said Paladino was taken into custody at the Elm Street address and arrested on charges of burglary, aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and possession of firearm by a prohibited person.

Paladino was being held Monday night at Androscoggin County Jail in lieu of $10,040 bail.

Minkowski said the man who accompanied Paladino during the incident fled the scene and hasn’t been arrested.

The motive for the invasion isn’t known, police said.

Minkowski wasn’t sure of Messer’s role in the case, other than the fact that he was home during the incident.

No shots were fired in the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
