WILTON – Police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a 17-month-old Wilton boy who died after falling down a flight of stairs Saturday morning.

Matteo Hanson was pronounced dead at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington after being rushed there. The boy’s mother, 20-year-old Brandy Sweet, called 911 at about 9 a.m. Saturday to report that the child fell down a flight of stairs at their Route 2 apartment.

“We talked to the mother. We talked to the hospital personnel. We are now awaiting results of an autopsy,” Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said Sunday evening.

McCausland said Sweet lived in a two-story apartment with her son. He did not have any information about whether anyone else lived in the apartment.

An autopsy was performed Sunday, according to McClausland, but results were not available Sunday night.
