POLAND – Investigators are looking to the public for help in tracking down a pick-up that was involved in a weekend attempted burglary at the camp store at Range Pond Campground and a subsequent chase.
Deputy Tom Slivinski of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at about 4:35 p.m. Sunday at the private campground on Plains Road.
He said the campground owners gave chase after catching two suspects trying to break into the store.
The suspects were traveling in a black, 1994 Chevrolet S10 pick-up truck and eluded the campground owners via an old railroad bed that runs behind the campground.
The truck is believed to have exited the area using Bailey Hill Road.
Slivinski said that the truck is registered to a Portland man, but investigators determined that the owner no longer lives at that address.
It was the second attempted burglary at the store in the past month.
Slivinski said someone attempted to break into the store two weeks ago, but fled when they realized that the owners were home.
In that incident, he said the campground owners reported being woken by breaking glass.
That same night, less than a mile from the campground, someone attempted to break into another home but was scared off by a security system.
Slivinski reminded people to lock their homes, vehicles and other property.
