Washout repairs
The scoop: Road Manager Arlan Saunders said nearly all repairs to town roads damaged by the August storms are complete, except for paving. Pine Tree Paving is scheduled to begin work this week on Millett Road, then move to Brighton Hill Road and Bradbury Hill Road. The town crew is expected to replace two culverts on Holbrook Road, where the flooding occurred, this week.
Washout costs
The scoop: Saunders said that earlier in the day he submitted his final FEMA reports in Augusta for damages from the August storms. The town has spent nearly $90,000 to date on repairs to the road beds and he is filing for paving at an estimated additional $34,277.
TVs, fluorescent light bulbs
Issue: Television sets, computer monitors and fluorescent light bulbs are considered hazardous waste and should not be thrown away with ordinary trash.
The scoop: Town Administrator Rhonda Irish said residents should bring their long tubular fluorescent light bulbs to the town office where they may leave them at a cost of $.10 per foot. Before disposing of TV sets or computer monitors, residents should go to the town office where, for $5 per set, they will receive authorization to take their TV/monitor to the Auburn Public Works garage on Gracelawn Avenue. Residents should take their new style energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs to stores that are recycling them.
Early voting
The scoop: Town Clerk Angeliec Goulding is processing absentee and early votes for the Nov. 4 election during ordinary town office hours. She noted that as of close of office on Monday, 55 people had voted.
