LEWISTON – A man stabbed during a fracas on Pine Street late Thursday was released from the hospital a day later while police looked for a juvenile they believe is responsible, Detective Lee Jones said.
“This was not a random act. The people knew each other. There’s no danger to the people of Lewiston,” he said.
Police recovered a kitchen steak knife with a 4-inch-long blade, which they believe was used to stab Damien Chin, 21, of Boston, Mass., during a fight at Pine and Pierce streets, Jones said.
The knife has been sent to the state crime lab for DNA testing, he said.
Police said Chin was stabbed near the ribs but did not provide them with information about who had attacked him.
Witnesses described a tall, 16-year-old girl as a possible suspect, police said. She had not been found by Friday night.
Police were called to Pine and Pierce streets about 11:35 p.m. Thursday and said a group was dispersing when they got there. Moments later, a group of people outside 54 Pierce St. flagged down an officer and led them to Chin.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lewiston police Jones at 513-3139.
