MECHANIC FALLS – Town leaders spent more than $38,000 at the state’s orders to replace a leaking fuel tank at the Elm Street School.
Now, voters need to approve using town savings rather than the school’s capital improvement money to pay for the job.
The Town Council scheduled a special town meeting for 6:30 p.m Sept. 2 in the town office.
The vote will have no impact on tax rates.
The leak was discovered in May in the inner wall of the school’s underground fuel storage tank. The state Department of Environmental Protection ordered the immediate replacement.
