LISBON – Organizers estimated that more than 25,000 people attended Saturday’s “silver” Moxie Festival, which marked the 25th year of the annual event.

The festival featured a parade of floats, for which first prize was given to Cub Scout Pack 109 of Lisbon Falls. Sylvia Crafts won first prize in the Moxie raffle; Frank Anicetti won second prize in the raffle.

Two hours before the parade began, spectators lined up along the route on both sides of the road from Capital Avenue onto Route 196 and up Main Street.

“Late-comers” who arrived 45 minutes before it started had to leave their cars on Canal Street, upper Main Street and Route 125 in Durham and walk a considerable distances to find spots to watch. By the time the last unit cleared Main Street, it was wall-to-wall people on the closed-off street.

The festival will continue on Sunday with the Spirit of the Wolf Powwow behind Lisbon High School until 2 p.m. Chief Worumbo’s Androscoggin Fun River Race will begin with registration at 9 a.m. at the Durham Boat Launch on Route 136 as well as other numerous activities in the downtown area. Word is out that there will again be an ample supply of Moxie and Moxie ice cream.

Closing ceremonies will take place at 5 p.m. at the high school.
