AUBURN – Injuries were minor but traffic was jammed Wednesday afternoon when three vehicles collided on Center Street.

It happened near the Auburn Mall about 12:20 p.m. Police said Loretta Bushey of Auburn was driving along Center Street when her brakes apparently failed as traffic began to slow in front of her.

Bushey’s Ford station wagon struck the back of a sedan driven by Wayne Riddle, 43, of Lewiston, which then struck the back of a van driven by Nelli Monahan, 72, of New Bern, N.C.

Riddle was examined for back pain suffered in the crash. There were no serious injuries.

The three vehicles remained in the highway after the wreck, slowing traffic from all directions as police and other emergency crews responded.
