LISBON – No injuries were reported, and damage was estimated at $25,000 in a slow-moving smoky fire at a three-family home on 17 Webster Road late Monday morning, fire Chief P. Sean Galipeau said.

Galipeau described it as a “great stop” by the initial attack crew under the direction of Capt. Jaime Plourde. It was “knocked down” by firefighters in about 20 minutes, the chief said.

The department’s investigator, Lt. Nathan LeClair, determined that the fire was not suspicious and most likely started in a ceiling light fixture in the kitchen on the first floor apartment at the rear of the building.

There was not a “good air supply,” which probably prevented flames from erupting, Galipeau said. The occupants of the second floor apartment reported smoke coming from the building at 11:39 a.m. The heaviest damage was in the first floor apartment occupied by the building owner, Roy Wandell, who was not at home at the time.

There was smoke damage in the other two apartments.

Firemen remained at the scene about four hours for mop-up operations.

The 2-story wood frame building was insured. In addition to Lisbon and Lisbon Falls Fire Departments, one truck from Topsham Fire Department responded to the scene. Lewiston Fire Department filled in at Lisbon’s E. T. Smith Hose Co., and a tanker from Durham Fire Department filled in at the Lisbon Falls station.
