Writer to speak

PORTLAND – University of New England’s Maine Women Writers Collection spring lecture series will begin Thursday, March 6, and features Elizabeth De Wolfe, associate professor and chair of UNE’s Department of History.

De Wolfe, the first of five women writers to be featured this spring, will talk about and read from her new book, “The Murder of Mary Bean and Other Stories,” from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Maine Women Writers Collection Sarton Room, Abplanalp Library at UNE’s Westbrook College Campus, 716 Stevens Ave.

Park reservations

GRAY – The Maine Wildlife Park is taking reservations for its spring and fall educational programs and guided tours. Weather and snow cover permitting, the park will open for the season on April 15.

The picnic shelters and outdoor classroom may be reserved for parties, special occasions and family gatherings.

To reserve a date and time, call 287-5244. A confirmation letter and packet of Maine Wildlife Park information and activities will be mailed in advance. From 25 to 80 students may participate in one program depending on the topic.

MS luncheon

PORTLAND – Sue Thomas, author, television personality and MS ambassador, will be the keynote speaker at the Maine Chapter, National MS Society’s Women Against MS luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.

Dr. Ann Cabot, a New England neurologist who specializes in the treatment of patients with MS, will be the guest speaker and will present a medical update on the treatment of MS. Kim Block, WGME-13 news anchor, will be the luncheon emcee. WAMS is the centerpiece of the Maine Chapter, National MS Society’s MS Awareness Week activities.
