LIVERMORE FALLS – An American Legion District 3 meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the George Bunten Post 10, 17 Reynolds Ave. All Legion officers and members of Posts 10, 22, 31, 66, 111, 135, 150, 153, 158 and 210 are invited, said District 3 officer Paul R. Bernard.

October is the 85th anniversary of Navy Day. The U.S. Navy League organized the first Navy Day on Oct. 27, 1922.

The day was recalled at the Vietnam Memorial Wall during its stay at the Lewiston Veterans Memorial Park. The Brunswick Naval Air Station color guard and firing squad performed under the command of Patrick Mcguire, firing commander.

Tyler Sybley walked up the west wing to the apex of the wall, placing the spent shell at the base where Thomas J. McMahon’s Purple Heart was placed.

Bernard said posts should also observe a moment of silence for personnel who lost their lives in the Beirut bombing and the Grenada invasion.
