WILTON – The Maine Poets Society will meet on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Boiler Room restaurant, 284A Main St. There is a registration fee for attendance, which includes a continental breakfast.
Those attending are also expected to pay for their own lunches. The meeting will end at approximately 3 p.m. Members are reminded to bring items for the silent auction. The morning session includes a business meeting, and the afternoon will include a “reading in the round,” where all those attending are invited to share a poem or two of their own creation.
The results of two contests, open to members only, will be announced. The morning contest, a villanelle, will be judged by Dawn Potter of Harmony. The afternoon contest, a poem about Maine, will be judged by Lee Sharkey.
Between meetings, many members participate in “round robins,” through which they constructively critique each other’s poetry by mail. Membership benefits also include a newsletter, the “Stanza,” which is published three times a year. The prize winning poems for each contest are published in the newsletter, as are the minutes of the last meeting. Information is also given about the next meeting and its contests.
