LISBON – Town Manager Curtis Lunt is leaving his post Aug. 22 due to differences with councilors over the direction and vision of the town, the council announced in a statement Monday.

“I appreciate the council understanding my financial needs, and I recognize the need for new leadership. This will allow us all a fresh start,” Lunt said.

The council wished Lunt well, Chairman Norma Wells said.

“We recognize Curt’s long service and commitment to Lisbon and thank him for his 15 years of service,” she said. “The arrangement was amicable.”

The council agreed to offer a severance package, details of which have not been released.

Lunt, 57, said Monday that he will not be moving from Lisbon. He will take a vacation and reassess “things after that,” he said.

Lunt said he is very proud of his accomplishments in his tenure in Lisbon.

“I’ve been a team player,” he said.

Among his accomplishments, he cited low taxes, improvements to the town infrastructure, a new town office, overseeing the transition to a council form of government, the Farwell Mill apartment complex, teen center and the Lisbon trails.

He said being in the field of town management for 32 years “is a long time without a real vacation.

“But people do suffer from burnout,” he said.

He was town manager at Conway, N.H., for 10 years, and before that he held similar positions in Monson, Veazie and Skowhegan.

Lunt is the fifth town employee to leave in the past couple months. Economic Development Director Dan Feeney, Tax Collector Betty Griebel, General Assistance Director Judy Hardy-Goddard and administrative assistant Tammy Thatcher all left to take other employment.
