LEWISTON – Crews will close the downtown skate park all day Monday, Aug. 13, for repairs.
The repairs were originally scheduled for July 30, but never happened because of a miscommunication with skate park designer Sam Batterson, Deputy Public Works Director Megan Bates said.
“I notified everybody, including the local skateboard shop, and then spent the day out there waiting for them to show up,” she said.
Batterson and a small crew will be sealing cracks and doing other maintenance on the concrete ramps and bowls at the southwestern corner of Kennedy Park. He’ll also do some welding work, replacing a metal drain cover.
Work should begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue all day. The park should reopen Tuesday.
Batterson designed and built the park for the Skate Lewiston and Auburn Movement, a group of local skateboarders and their parents. The group raised money from local businesses to build the park.
The skate park opened in November. It consists of two deep bowls and a street course, with ramps, benches, curbs and other obstacles. The maintenance work is part of Batterson’s original contract with SLAM and will not cost the city anything.
