AUBURN – Police on Thursday arrested a second suspect in connection with an armed robbery at McDonald’s last weekend.
About 7:10 p.m., 24-year-old Daniel Duhamel, of Mechanic Falls, surrendered to police who had been searching for him since the June 23 heist at the Center Street restaurant.
Earlier Thursday night, police had been closing in on Duhamel after he was reported seen driving through the area.
Later, around 7 p.m., Duhamel went to his attorney’s office in Lewiston where he agreed to surrender to police. Officers went there to arrest him on a robbery charge and took him to the Androscoggin County Jail.
Duhamel was being held Thursday night on $15,000 cash bail.
Duhamel is the second suspect charged in the early morning robbery in which two masked men threatened McDonald’s employees with baseball bats, forced them into a back room, and fled with cash.
The first arrest came hours after the robbery when detectives looked at footage from a restaurant surveillance camera. Police said that footage showed McDonald’s employee Andrew Gage unlocking a door to let the two armed men inside.
Gage, 19, of Lewiston, was charged with robbery.
With Gage and Duhamel being held in the heist, police are still looking for the third suspect, 24-year-old Kristopher Dahlquist, who police say is one of the men who brandished a baseball bat while threatening McDonald’s employees.
Dahlquist, described as 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, remained at large Thursday night. Police asked that anyone with information about his whereabouts call them at 784-7332.
