LEWISTON – The city said “let there be light” and there was light. Particularly in the Park Street section of downtown.

City officials on Wednesday announced that after several weeks of work by public works crews, a downtown street lighting circuit has been repaired and street lights around the Oak Park area are again in operation.

For most of spring, a section of Park Street near Oak Street and the municipal parking garage has remained dark after nightfall. The issue was a cause for concern for residents of Oak Park, people who parked in the lot and patrons of Victor News.

City officials said those areas should now be illuminated at night.

However, one lamp pod in the municipal parking lot and the walkway that runs beside the violations bureau will remain out of operation until Park Street excavation can occur to repair a broken conduit.
