LEWISTON – A teenager was charged with drunken driving after slamming into a police cruiser late Tuesday, and police arrested a man they say provided the alcohol.
Julie Boucher, 18, of 24 Delcliffe Lane, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. after driving into the side of the cruiser at Lisbon and Maple streets. Police said Boucher drove through a stop sign on Maple Street and t-boned the cruiser driven by police Officer Bill Rousseau, who was driving on Lisbon.
A passenger in Boucher’s car was examined for a complaint of pain, but no serious injuries were reported. Boucher was tested for alcohol and later charged with driving while intoxicated.
As they investigated the incident, police went to the home of 23-year-old James Pontoo and charged him with violating probation by providing liquor to a minor. Police said a group of people, including Boucher and a 17-year-old passenger in her car, had been drinking at Pontoo’s Birch Street apartment.
Damage to the police cruiser, a 2006 Ford, was estimated at $3,000. Damage to the 2004 Hyundai, driven by Boucher and owned by Guy Boucher, was estimated at $4,000.
